Les Misérables - Schönberg -- At the end of the day (Versione Italiana)

Poor people
At the end of the day you're another day older,    Passa un giorno di più e sei d’un giorno più vecchio
And that's all you can say for the life of the poor.
It's a struggle, it's a war,                è  una guerra, un’agonia
And there's nothing that anyone's giving.        è una lunga, un’eterna salita.
One more day, standing about, what is it for?    Se ne va, un giorno in più, che sarà mai?
One day less to be living.                uno in meno di vita.

At the end of the day you're another day colder,      Passa un giorno di più e senti un poco più freddo
And the shirt on your back doesn't keep out the chill.  Coi tuoi logori stracci scaldarti non puoi
And the righteous hurry past,                  tra miseria e carestia
They don't hear the little ones crying        e un inverno sempre più forte
end the e is coming on fast, ready to kill.                        che col gelido soffio dei suoi - mille rasoi
One day nearer to dying!                           dà carezze di morte.
At the end of the day there's another day dawning    Passa un giorno di più ed ecco un altro ti aspetta
And the sun in the morning is waiting to rise.
And the waves crash on the sand,            Ma nell’aria adesso c’è
Like a storm that'll break any second…        una calma che annuncia tempesta…
There's a hunger in the land,            Per i nobili ed il Re
There's a reckoning still to be reckoned…        quando e se scoppierà la  protesta
And there's gonna be hell to pay,            non avremo  nessuna pietà
At the end of the day!                non un giorno di più
Capoturno
At the end of the day you get nothing for nothing…
Sitting flat on your bum doesn't buy any bread.          Non vi pago perché stiate a chiacchiera qui!

DONNA1-
There are children back at home,                            ho famiglia a casa mia
DONNA2-
And the children have got to be fed.                        e una figlia  da crescere anch’io.
DONNA3-
And you're lucky to be in a job.                                se ho un lavoro e ringrazio il buon Dio
FATTORE-
And in a bed!                                                              ...e l’osteria...
DONNA1-2-3-
And we're counting our blessings!                                ...specie il giorno di paga!

DONNA-1-2-3-
Have you seen how the foreman is fuming today?
With his terrible breath and his wandering hands?
It's because little Fantine won't give him his way,           E’ la nuova, Fantine: lo respinge da un po’.
Take a look at his trousers, you'll see where he stands! -     faccia poco la santa, anche lei cederà!

[
And the boss, he never knows,                        Ma il padrone non lo sa
That the foreman is always on heat.                 Che gran porco quell’uomo che sia
If Fantine doesn’t look out,                                 Se Fantine non dirà “sì”
Watch how she goes,                                           presto sarà
She’ll be out on the street!                                   fuori a calci da qui!
]

Workers:
At the end of the day it's another day over,        Passa un giorno di più la giornata è finita
With enough in your pocket to last for a week,        ed i soldi che hai in tasca non bastano già,
Pay the landlord, pay the shop.            Paga affitto, cibo e poi
Keep on working as long as you're able.        torna in fabbrica finché non cedi.
Keep on working till you drop,                Stringi i denti se non vuoi
Or it's back to the crumbs on the table.            ritornartene sul marciapiedi!
You've got to pay your way,                Tira avanti finché puoi
At the end of the day!                per un giorno di più.
And what have we here, little innocent sister?          Che guarda la pia nostra vergine casta?
Come on Fantine, let's have all th news!                       Forza Fantine, fa’ leggere sù.
"Dear Fantine you must send us more money…          Cara Fantine quel denaro non basta...
Your child needs a doctor…There's no time to lose!"    ..la bimba peggiora ogni giorno di più

FANTINE-
Give that letter to me,It is none of your business…    Quella lettera è mia, niente che ti rigurardi!
With a husband at home, And a bit on the side.
Is there anyone here, Who can swear before God,      Sono forse la sola qua dentro, perdio,
She has nothing to fear? She has nothing to hide?      che un passato alle spalle e lo tiene per sé?

VALJEAN-
What is this fighting all about?            Ma quanto chiasso voi laggiù!
Will someone tear these two apart?        Basta, smettetela, che c’è?!
This is a factory, not a circus!            La mia è un’azienda e non un circo!
Now come on ladies, settle down,        Sapete bene che in città
I am the Mayor of this town,            Io sono il sindaco, perciò,
I run a business of repute.            Ho un nome e esigo serietà!
I look to you to sort this out,            ...Mi affido a te, pensaci tu,
And be as patient as you can…        e sii paziente come puoi...
[torna in fabbrica]

Capoturno
Now someone say how this began!        Fuori chi è stata tra di voi!

SOLO CORO DONNE-
At the end of the day she's the one who began it!
There's a kid that she's hiding in some little town.     di nascosto mantiene un bambino in città
There's a man she has to pay!            per cui paga chissà chi!
You can guess how she picks up the extra…    E scommetto arrotonda  il salario
You can bet she's earning her keep sleeping around Nottetempo, in giro  qua e là, nei letti altrui.
And the boss wouldn't like it!             se  il padrone sapesse...

And her father abandoned us leaving us flat…
Now she lives with an innkeeper man and his wife,    La famiglia di un oste l’ha presa con sé
And I pay for the child,What's the matter with that???

Women:
At the end of the day she'll be nothing but trouble,        Mentre noi stiamo qui guadagnandoci il pane
And there's trouble for all when there's trouble for one.     la fraschetta insolente fa i comodi suoi.
While we're earning our daily bread,            Sono grane per lei e per noi
She's the one with her hands in the butter.          se si fa pizzicare in flagrante
You must send the slut away,                non può stare, se ne andrà

Les Misérables - Who Am I - Versione Italiana

Accontentatevi :-P

[VALJEAN] [VALJEAN]
He thinks that man is me Se ha preso per Valejean
He knew him at a glance! quell'uomo è fatta ormai!
That stranger he has found ho l' opportunità
This man could be my chance! di chiudere coi guai!

Why should I save his hide? Perché mi fa pietà?
Why should I right this wrong Non so neanche chi sia,
When I have come so far A questo punto qua
And struggled for so long? parlare è una follia!

If I speak, I am condemned. [Scelta atroce, crocevia,
If I stay silent, I am damned! [tra rimorso o prigionia]

I am the master of hundreds of workers. [Come lasciare i miei tanti operai
They all look to me. che mi stimano;
How can I abandon them? How would they live che hanno bisogno di me per poter
If I am not free? sopravvivere?]

If I speak, I am condemned. [Scelta atroce, crocevia
If I stay silent, I am damned! tra rimorso o prigionia]

Who am I? Fingere?
Can I condemn this man to slavery Per trasformarsi nel carnefice
Pretend I do not feel his agony d'un povero innocente in carcere
This innocent who bears my face recluso per pagare il fio
Who goes to judgement in my place di colpe che ho commesso io?

Who am I? Fingere?
Can I conceal myself for evermore? Per poi tentare di nascondermi
Pretend I'm not the man I was before? dai miei rimorsi dai miei crimini?
And must my name until I die potrà una falsa identità
Be no more than an alibi? salvarmi per l'eternità?

Must I lie? Fingere
How can I ever face my fellow men? potrà proteggermi dagli uomini
How can I ever face myself again? ma non potrà salvarmi l'anima
My soul belongs to God, I know dinnanzi a un Dio che tutto sa
I made that bargain long ago a cui promisi l'onestà

He gave me hope when hope was gone Quel giorno Dio mi riscattò
He gave me strength to journey on Quest'oggi non lo tradirò:

[He appears in front of the court]

Who am I? Who am I? Fingere....Tu non puoi
I am Jean Valjean! Sei Jean Valjean!

[He unbuttons his shirt to reveal the number tattooed
to his chest]

And so Javert, you see it's true Chi cerchi è qui, davanti a te,
That man bears no more guilt than you! Javert il vero Jean Valjean
Who am I? 24601! Sono io: 32623!

PS:
Sono indeciso sul ritornello... "Who am I"
"Chi sei tu" (piu' vicino all'originale)
"Fingere" (sdrucciola, secondo me piu' significativa come ritornello).
